Proprietary transaction data shows home improvement and convenience purchases account for more than half of lifetime activity analyzed

Orlando, Fla. – July 28, 2026 – Shopr Rewards, LLC, a B2B2C fintech engagement platform, today released an analysis of proprietary transaction data showing that customers engage most consistently with rewards tied to daily routines, household needs and purchases they already make.

The analysis found that home improvement purchases represented 21.5% of lifetime transactions recorded on the Shopr Rewards platform. Another 32.8% involved convenience-related purchases, including food delivery, rideshare services and coffee.

Combined, the two categories accounted for 54.3% of the transaction activity analyzed, despite the broad availability of restaurant, entertainment and other discretionary options.

The findings indicate that rewards connected to practical needs and established routines may create more frequent and sustained engagement than programs built primarily around aspirational points or occasional discretionary purchases.

“Our transaction data shows that relevance is a stronger engagement driver than aspiration,” said Sharon Mattimoe, chief operating officer of Shopr Rewards. “Customers are more likely to use a benefit consistently when it helps reduce the cost of purchases already built into their lives, from coffee and food delivery to transportation and home projects. For organizations, becoming useful within those routines creates more opportunities to remain relevant between major customer interactions.”

The results offer an important consideration for businesses developing loyalty, membership and customer-retention strategies. Programs that provide immediate savings on familiar purchases can offer customers a clear and measurable benefit without requiring them to accumulate points or change their existing spending behavior.

The data also reflects two distinct engagement patterns. Convenience purchases create repeated interactions through daily and weekly routines, while home improvement purchases connect rewards to larger household needs. Together, they demonstrate the value of offering benefits across both frequent and financially meaningful spending categories.

For enterprise organizations, the findings suggest that customer engagement strategies should be informed by actual purchase behavior rather than assumptions about which rewards consumers find most appealing.
